Founded in 2017, with the mission to make clean energy accessible to all
Domora’s founder and CEO, Russell Wilcox made it his goal to give all building owners and residents access to distributed energy resources. His previous business, Urban Energy, set the foundation for a clean energy platform in a niche market of NYC. Domora has now positioned itself to provide roofing and clean energy solutions nationwide.
The initial target was pre-war multifamily buildings in NYC, which characteristically have large, flat roofs - making the perfect place for a high number of solar panels, as well as the potential for local residents to save money on their electrical bills through community solar subscriptions.
By taking advantage of this untapped market, Domora was able to become one of the first community solar and electrification development companies with scale in New York City.
What Does Domora Mean?
The name Domora reflects both our mission and our values: protection, renewal, and clean energy transformation. While not taken from a single language, the word is inspired by several roots:
Domus (Latin: “home”) — A nod to the buildings we protect, restore, and prepare for long-term performance.
Aura (“energy, atmosphere”) — Representing the invisible layer of resilience we add to every project. For us, “aura” also speaks to our environmental impact: by extending roof life and enabling solar + storage, we help reduce material waste, cut carbon emissions, and create a cleaner atmosphere for all.
Mythic resonance — The sound of Domora carries a timeless, almost mythological weight, aligning with our vision to build solutions that endure and empower future generations.
Together, these influences make Domora more than a name. It’s a symbol of protection, sustainability, and unlocking new energy potential.
